The Webflow SEO checklist I use on every build

Webflow, explained · 6 min read · By Mo

Webflow gives you strong SEO foundations, but strong foundations don't help if nobody sets them up. Here's the practical checklist I run through on every build, in plain English, so you know what "good SEO" actually means on a page.

1. Titles and meta descriptions

Every page gets a unique, clear title tag and meta description. The title is what shows in search results and carries real ranking weight, so it should say what the page is about and include what people search for. No duplicates, no leaving them blank.

2. One clear H1 per page

Each page needs a single, descriptive H1 heading that tells search engines and readers what it's about. Then a sensible heading structure below it. It sounds basic, and it's exactly the kind of basic that a surprising number of sites get wrong.

3. Image alt text and compression

Every meaningful image gets alt text describing it, good for accessibility and for image search, and gets compressed so it doesn't slow the page. Fast, described images are a quiet double win.

4. Clean URLs and structure

Short, readable URLs that describe the page, and a logical site structure so both people and crawlers can find everything. A tidy structure with clear internal links spreads ranking strength around your site.

5. Schema markup

Structured data describing your business, content and pages, so search engines understand you with confidence and can show rich results. This is also increasingly what AI tools lean on. Most sites skip it; I don't.

6. Speed and mobile

A fast, mobile-friendly site is a ranking factor and a basic expectation. Lightweight code, optimised images, and a layout that works on a phone. Google indexes the mobile version first, so the phone experience is the one that counts.

7. Sitemap, robots and indexing

A proper sitemap submitted to Google, a sensible robots file, and a check that the pages you want found are actually indexable and the ones you don't want found aren't. Small settings, big consequences if they're wrong.

The bit checklists miss

On-page setup gets you found-able; it doesn't write your content or earn your trust. Real SEO is this checklist plus genuinely useful pages and being a credible business over time. But get the basics wrong and none of the rest can save you. Every site I build ships with this done, and I offer deeper SEO and AEO work on top when you want to push further.
