Webflow vs Wix: which is right for your business?

Wix and Webflow both build websites without hand-coding everything, but they aim at different people. Wix is built for a total beginner to get something up fast. Webflow is built for people who want real control and a professional result. Here's the honest comparison, from someone who builds in Webflow but won't pretend Wix has no place.

Ease of starting

Wix wins here, clearly. Drag, drop, pick a template, you're live in an afternoon. Webflow has a steeper learning curve because it exposes how websites actually work, which is powerful but takes time to learn. If you're a solo owner who just needs a simple presence and enjoys DIY, Wix is genuinely fine.

Design control and quality

This is where Webflow pulls ahead. It gives you precise control over layout, spacing, animation and responsiveness, so a good build looks custom and polished rather than "template with my logo on it". Wix can look great too, but it's easier to hit its ceiling, and heavily customised Wix sites can get messy under the hood.

Speed and SEO

Webflow generally produces cleaner, faster-loading code, which helps with both user experience and search ranking. Wix has improved a lot here and is fine for many sites, but if performance and SEO are a priority, Webflow gives you more to work with and fewer limits.

Growing with you

If you might need a proper blog, structured content, or a more ambitious design later, Webflow scales with you without a rebuild. Wix can feel limiting once your needs grow past the basics. Think about where you'll be in two years, not just today.

Cost

Wix is cheaper to run yourself. Webflow costs a bit more and, done well, usually means bringing in someone like me. So the real question isn't just price, it's whether you want the cheapest DIY option or a custom result that's built to perform.

My honest take

What about maintenance?

Wix is genuinely easy to maintain yourself day to day, which is a real plus if you want to be fully hands-on and never call anyone. Webflow is also easy to edit content in once it's built, through its Editor, but bigger changes usually mean going back to whoever built it. So the question is partly about how you want to run the site: totally solo, or built properly with someone on call for the bigger stuff.

Migrating later

Worth knowing: moving off Wix later can be a pain, because your site is fairly locked into their system. Webflow gives you cleaner ownership and more portability. If there's any chance you'll outgrow your first choice, that's a point in Webflow's favour, you're less likely to be stuck redoing everything from scratch down the line.

Which looks more professional?

Both can look good, but at the higher end Webflow pulls ahead. If a polished, clearly custom look matters to your brand, and for a lot of businesses it does, Webflow gives a designer more room to make something that feels genuinely yours rather than "nice template". Wix sites are more likely to look like other Wix sites. Not always, but more often.

A simple way to decide

Ask yourself: is this a simple presence I want to build and run entirely myself on a tight budget? Lean Wix. Or is my website a real part of how I win customers, where design, speed and being found actually matter? Lean Webflow, and get it built properly. Both are valid, they just suit different situations, and I'll tell you honestly which one yours is.

If you want something simple, cheap, and you'll build it yourself, Wix is a reasonable choice and I won't talk you out of it.
