One-page vs multi-page website: which does your business need?

Should your site be a single scrolling page, or a proper multi-page site? Both are legitimate, and the right answer depends on your business, not on what's trendy. Here's how to decide.

What a one-page site is good for

A single page that scrolls through your key sections, what you do, a bit about you, some proof, and how to get in touch. It's clean, cheap, fast to build, and perfect when your offer is simple and focused. For a lot of small local businesses and personal brands, one strong page is genuinely all they need.

Where one page falls short

The catch is search. A one-page site can only really rank for one topic, because it's one page. If you offer several distinct services, or you want to be found for lots of different searches, you're limited. It also gets cramped if you try to stuff too much onto it.

What a multi-page site gives you

Separate pages for each service, an about page, a contact page, maybe a blog. This matters for two reasons: each page can target and rank for its own topic, and you can go into proper depth on each thing you offer without cluttering everything else. More room, more reach.

The SEO angle

If being found on Google for a range of searches matters to you, multi-page usually wins, more pages means more chances to rank and more room for content. A one-page site is fine if most of your traffic comes from elsewhere, social, referrals, ads, and the site is mainly there to close the deal.

A quick way to decide

One service, simple offer, traffic mostly from social or word of mouth? One page is probably enough. Several services, want to rank on Google, need room to explain things? Go multi-page. And you can always start with one page and grow into more later.
